Paradise Valley, its resorts historic and exclusive, lies
in the shadow of Camelback Mountain. LON's at the Hermosa
was rated the top restaurant in Phoenix/Paradise Valley by the
2000 Zagat Survey. And the Ranch on Camelback Mountain (a
Gardiner's tennis ranch) reopened as the Sanctuary on Camelback
Mountain, introducing a 12,000-square-foot spa.
Paradise Valley was incorporated in 1961. Paradise Valley's name was inspired
by the beautiful wildflowers found in the spring prior to it's boom
in home building. Today Paradise Valley is generally an upscale residential
community known for its excellent school system. It has the highest
median income and the largest percentage of college graduates in the
area. Zoning has restricted commercial development to posh resort hotels
and single family homes to minimum of one-acre lots.
Paradise Valley partially encompasses the Phoenix Mountain
Preserve, a large area of natural desert landscape that includes
Squaw Peak, North Mountain and Camelback Mountain. Bike trails,
horse trails, and over 32 miles of hiking trails make this
area one of the most popular outdoor activity areas of the
Valley.
The town has just completed a truly unique and truly well
deserved memorial to one of it's favorite sons, Barry Goldwater,
who's former home sits on top of a Phoenix Mountain Preserve
peak as a fitting tribute to the stature of the late U.S.
Senator.
