Buckeye is drawing major housing developers with plans for gated communities, challenging desert golf courses and luxury homes. Developers are being drawn to Buckeye because of the available land (nearly 500 square miles of planning area), scenic vistas of several nearby mountains, and an abundant source of water. Buckeye has recently approved or is in the process of approving more than 160,000 single-family lots; a staggering number by any standard but unfathomable for a town of fewer than 7,000 people. "Better, not just bigger" summarizes Buckeye' s intent for preparedness planning. Buckeye' s rural heritage is as fundamental to the future as it is today. The Town of Buckeye is a small, yet fast growing community located southwest of Phoenix. Buckeye, founded in 1888, prides itself on its quality lifestyle and family-oriented environment. With a planning area of approximately 600 square miles, Buckeye has initiated a unique and progressive Community Master Plan approach to community planning and business expansion. The median household income in Buckeye is just over $35,300. The average household contains 3.03 people, with approximately 48 percent of households having two or more working adults. Buckeye also has access to a pool of nearly a million workers within a 30 minute commute. Transportation Buckeye is conveniently located just north and south of Interstate 10, on the western side of the metro area, allowing convenient trucking access to the Los Angeles area. In addition, State Route 85, which runs through downtown Buckeye, connects to Interstate 8 just south of Buckeye and is an easy route to the San Diego area markets. Buckeye is served by the Union Pacific railroad, and has seven industrial sites with existing rail spurs. General aviation services are available at the Buckeye Municipal Airport, and the nearby Phoenix-Goodyear Municipal Airport. Buckeye is also only about 40 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which has connections to every major market in the United States. more information on transportation Buckeye has a balanced economy with a mix of agriculture, manufacturing and services. The Buckeye area is among the largest producers of Pima cotton in the country. There are a number of local gins that process the cotton for shipment worldwide. Dairy farms and other crop production can also be found in the Buckeye area, which has a well-managed renewable water supply.
